Khoja Gaukushon Tour

Khoja-Gaukushon is a magnificent architectural ensemble, located centrally in Bukhara. It has been so named because Gaukushon means "killing bulls" and before the complex was constructed there used to be a massive trading square and a slaughterhouse.

Khoja-Gaukushon is a magnificent architectural ensemble, located centrally in Bukhara. It has been so named because Gaukushon means "killing bulls" and before the complex was constructed there used to be a massive trading square and a slaughterhouse. The ensemble comprises of a madrassa, a cathedral mosque and a highHoja Kalon minaret, which is slightly inferior to Kalyan minaret in size. It was built in 1570 during the reign of Uzbek khan Abdullah Khan II. Monuments within the Gaukushon Ensemble have a typical V century architecture– consisting of three-layer walls, mesh decorative arch, vibrant majolica, and tile mosaic. Though each monument doesn’t have artistic value, they, however, create a small city ensemble next to a noisy shopping mall.
