n the outskirts of Samarkand, on Afrasiab hill, is a complex of mausoleums called Shahi Zinda which in Persian translated to “The Living King.” Amongst which is the Mausoleum of Kassam ibn Abbas who was a cousin of Prophet Muhammad. Legend says that Kusam Ibn Abbas came to Samarkand to preach Islam but was beheaded, and a visit to the mausoleum is equated to a visit to the Mecca.
